Re: Election Office Case No. P-1074-LU284-CLE
Gentlemen:
James P. Hoffa, a member of Local Union 614 and a candidate for general president, filed a pre-election protest pursuant to Article XIV, Section 2(b) of the Rules for the 1995-1996 IBT International Union Delegate and Officer Election (“Rules”). The protester alleged that a rally/fundraiser for Ron Carey, a candidate for general president, held on Sunday, October 13, 1996 at the Local Union 284 meeting hall, constituted an improper campaign contribution since the Hoffa campaign was not notified of the availability of the hall for campaign use. The local union has since provided Mr. Hoffa with a letter that was sent to each campaign notifying them that the hall could be used for a fee of $300, as well as a copy of Mr. Carey’s acceptance and payment. Mr. Hoffa now advises the Election Office that he wishes to withdraw his protest.
The Election Officer, finding that the withdrawal effectuates the purpose of the Rules, permits the protest to be WITHDRAWN.
